RAC Reflexology Conference

This was the invitation we received from the Reflexology Association of Canada and it is extended to all of you.

" The 2nd RAC International Conference will take place at the Fairmont Hotel, Winnipeg from November 5th to 7th 2010 and we expect some 400 participants will attend to hear a wide array of presentations, topics and international speakers.  As Canada's only national Reflexology Association, we want to ensure that we help to build and maintain bridges and links between ourselves and other Reflexology associations around the world and, in this spirit of co-operation, we would like to invite you and your members to join us for the conference and for the wonderful international networking opportunities which it will offer."

Footsteps Newsletter - Fall 2010

Hello everyone,,

The fall is here and the colours are just magnificent here in Ontario.  I hope its the same where you live.
It seems like the busy season is upon us already, I have noticed an increase in phone calls from patients and students and hope its the same for you.

We have a great article from Deanne Kelleher of Kaos Group to remind us all of the enormous potential of Gift Cards,  particularly with Xmas just around the corner.

We have a new section called 'The feet in question"; each newsletter will address a different condition, problem etc and will hopefully be useful to you all.

Please note the dates of upcoming courses in the fall and spring,  hope to see you all again very soon and a very healthy and happy Autumn to you all.

Best wishes, Janet

 Gift Card Potential

Your clients might see you two more times before the New Year. Which means you only have two opportunities to help check off names on their holiday gift list. Gift Card sales in the Salon and Spa industry account for billions of dollars. You can truly generate a solid income from gift card sales and help your loyal customers take care of their holiday shopping list.

10 Steps to Gift Card Sales Success

1.       Tell them - Put up your signage early telling your clients that you offer gift certificates.

2.       Make it Beautiful - Offer gift wrapping, include gift boxes, tissue and ribbon for the gift cards.

3.       Give a Bonus - Give a $10 gift card to the purchaser for every $100 they spend.

4.       Make it Easy - Sell your gift cards straight from your website.

5.       Deliver - make a deal with a courier to deliver the beautifully wrapped gift cards to those in a specific area.

6.       Cross Promote - Tell your partners, you know the restaurant or flower shop that you promote in your Salon or Spa. Ask them if you can put up a small display with your business cards in their business. Be sure to reciprocate!

7.       Package Deals - Well packaged services sell like hotcakes. Keep the price points of packages to $100, $250 and $375 and offer straight dollar value cards in $25, $50, $75, $100 selections.

8.       Tell Everyone - Advertise loud and clear. Put signage in every room, have the staff talk it up, include the information in your 'on-hold' message, tell people when you answer the phone, put up shelf talkers and be sure your team is sharing the great news too.

9.       Incentives - The front end team is critical to your overall success and you want to sell gift cards. Consider offering incentives or rewards for the levels of gift card sales achieved.

10.   Solicit your Suppliers - ask your suppliers to donate retail size product and for every gift card sold the buyers name goes into the draw. Conduct the draw just before January 1st.

 What is a Pedorthist?

Footcare is the top priority of our Canadian Certified Pedorthists. They are concerned with the correct footwear, the diabetic foot, the arthritic foot, Orthotics, Plantar Fasciitis, Metatarsalgia, Leg vein problems, each of these conditions, we will study in more depth in subsequent newsletters.

"Certified Pedorthist" is a title used by both the College of Pedorthics of Canada as well as the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics (ABC).

The two Colleges have many overlapping elements of training and offer similar services, however they are indeed two different colleges with differing educational requirements. Certified members from both schools are orthotic and footwear experts. They are one of the few healthcare professionals trained in the assessment of lower limb anatomy and biomechanics. Pedorthists help to alleviate pain, abnormalities and debilitating conditions of the lower limbs and feet that if left untreated could result in limited mobility.

Check out your local Pedorthist and get to know them, we can all learn from each other.
